Kintsugi-inspired hazel hiking stick with locally gathered red ochre and crushed turquoise

This medium sized hiking stick has a 130cm deep brown hazel shank with bronze mottling, coppiced at the 100 Acer Conservation Project in early 2025. It nearly ended up as fuel for the 100 Acer wild clay kiln this year! The top features a kintsugi-inspired repair of a natural central crack, filled with red ochre hand-gathered from Wick Ochre Mines & Works in South Gloucestershire, mixed with crushed Tibetan turquoise and resin. The shank has a slight natural bend that adds character to an already eye-catching stick. The tip is protected by a custom-made copper ferrule with an interchangeable tip system — a rubber foot for hard surfaces and indoor use, and a tungsten steel hiking tip for rough terrain. Tips are kept in the included jute pouch, which features a hand-inlaid wooden charm on the drawstring. The lanyard is braided natural jute with a copper wire wrap and spiral terminal. - Length: approximately 130cm - Wood: Cotswolds hazel, with bark left intact - Top: kintsugi crack repair with turquoise and locally sourced red ochre. - Shank: wonky but very strong - Ferrule: custom copper with interchangeable tip - Lanyard: natural jute with copper wire wrap - Finish: Sanded to 3000 grit on the top and 600 grit on the shank, and treated to several coats of 100% natural Danish oil and beeswax, hand-poured by Rhoose Point Remedies, Vale of Glamorgan in Wales. One of a kind. As with all Bough & Burrow sticks, the shank has been sustainably sourced from known sources and finished by hand using only natural materials.
