Hazel Hiking Stick with Kintsugi Repair | HS-003
Kintsugi-inspired hazel hiking stick with locally gathered red ochre and crushed turquoise
This stick has a 120cm deep brown hazel shank with bronze mottling, coppiced at the 100 Acer Conservation Project in early 2025. It nearly ended up as fuel for the 100 Acer wild clay kiln — glad it didn't. The top features a kintsugi-inspired repair of a natural central crack, filled with red ochre hand-gathered from Wick Ochre Mines & Works in South Gloucestershire, mixed with crushed Tibetan turquoise and resin. The shank has a slight natural bend that adds character rather than detracting from it. The tip is protected by a custom-made copper pipe ferrule with an interchangeable tip system — a rubber foot for hard surfaces and indoor use, and a steel trail spike for rough terrain. Spare tips are kept in the included jute pouch, which features a hand-inlaid wooden charm on the drawstring. The lanyard is braided natural jute with a copper wire wrap and spiral terminal. Sanded to 3000 grit on the top and 600 grit on the shank, finished with 100% natural Danish oil and beeswax handcrafted at Rhoose Point, Vale of Glamorgan. One of a kind.
